​United Airlines just rolled out a highly lucrative status match challenge targeted specifically at New York flyers. If you have elite status with a competing airline, this is one of the easiest paths to securing United Premier status through the end of 2027.

​The Offer

​Match your current airline elite status to United MileagePlus Premier. Once activated, you’ll have 120 days to complete a significantly relaxed set of requirements to extend the status for the long haul.

​How to Get It:

1. ​Submit Your Match: Head to the promo page and upload proof of your current airline status by September 30. Approval takes up to 14 business days.
2. ​Take an Activating Flight: Fly United or United Express into or out of Newark (EWR) or LaGuardia (LGA) within 90 days of approval (or within 30 days prior to applying). This officially activates your trial status for 120 days.
3. ​Complete the Challenge: To lock in your status through 2027, you only need to take 2 qualifying flights and hit a reduced Premier Qualifying Points (PQP) threshold during your 120-day window.

​Pro-Tip: If you hold a United co-branded credit card, the PQP you earn from your everyday card spend will count toward meeting your challenge requirements, making it even easier to knock out the threshold without taking extra flights.
