Some people have reported that they’re unable to add an item directly to their Subscribe & Save (S&S) monthly delivery day when placing their first order.

Instead, the first item gets delivered immediately, and only future orders get added to the monthly schedule to count toward the 5-item discount.

Just wanted to share what I’ve found in my experience:

IME (In My Experience), it only blocks the first Subscribe & Save (S&S) order you make to an address. Once you create a “Monthly Delivery” by placing an order to that address, future orders can be added directly to the same monthly delivery and will accumulate toward the 5-item threshold for the higher discount. (You may need to select that option from the drop-down menu on the listing page before clicking “Buy Now.”) At that point, you can cancel and repurchase the first order so it also gets placed into the monthly delivery.

If you’re trying to hit 5 items to unlock the higher discount, here’s a trick – ordering 2 of the same item in one order only counts as 1 toward the 5. But if you place separate orders for each, they’ll each count individually. So ordering the same item twice in two separate orders counts as 2, helping you reach 5 faster!

Another data point regarding gift cards: IME, whenever I place the 5th item, the system retriggers and switches the payment method from gift card to my credit card. Only subsequent orders get charged to the gift card. The same thing happens when you change the delivery day. It might be possible to edit them afterward, but this seems to be how the system functions.

One more thing to note: Some items default to delivery every 2 weeks, which can show a different delivery date and will not be added to your monthly subscription delivery day even for the first order. This can prevent you from getting the extra discount for having 5 items. To avoid this, change the frequency to a “Monthly Delivery” option (like every 1 or 2 months).
