If you shop on Amazon, you know the drill at checkout: Do I need it now, or do I pick “Amazon Day” to get fewer boxes?

For a long time, the incentive for waiting _{(depends how far out your day is, but it can be changed to trigger discount)} was a bit of a mixed bag. Sometimes it was a digital credit (which, let’s be honest, many of us forgot to use). Other times Prime Card holders get bumped up from 5% back to 6% or even higher in reward points during big sales events.

But it looks like Amazon has quietly added a new option (likely instead of the digital credits) to the mix, and it might be the best one yet: an instant 2% discount directly off your order.

The Discovery: Cash Off, Not Points Back

As you can see in the receipt breakdown below, selecting Amazon Day Delivery triggered a direct line-item discount:

Why This Is A Big Deal

This new 2% discount changes the math in a few ways:

1. It’s Immediate Visual Cash Off: You aren’t waiting for a credit to hit your account or trying to remember to buy an eBook before it expires. The price just drops right now.
2. It Works With Other Cards: Previously, the “extra percentage back” offers were usually exclusive to the Amazon Prime Visa card. This new discount comes off the top.

Note: Keep in mind that selecting the Prime card will apply the 6% offer. While the 2% savings is likely the best discount, the prime card might still be worth it unless you have gift cards or credit.

The Bottom Line

I assume Amazon replaced this entirely instead of the digital credits, but it’s possible Amazon will still rotate through different offers depending on the item or the payment method.

So we might still see digital credits pop up here and there, but adding a straight-up cash discount option is a huge win for shoppers who prefer keeping money in their pocket over managing expiring digital credits.
